Pat Hingle Dies At 84

VETERAN actor Pat Hingle (right), who played Commissioner Gordon in several Batman movies in the 1990s, has died. He was 84.

A family friend said Hingle died of blood cancer at his home in Carolina Beach, N.C., USA, shortly after 10 p.m. last Saturday.

Hingle's career in movies and television spanned six decades, and he was also nominated for a Tony Award in 1958. Hingle's last movie was 'Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby,' which was released in 2006.

Martin Patterson Hingle was born in Denver, Colorado, the son of Marvin Louise (née Patterson), a schoolteacher and musician, and Clarence Martin Hingle, a building contractor. He enlisted in the U.S
. Navy in December 1941, dropping out of the University of Texas. He served on the destroyer USS Marshall during World War II. He returned to the University of Texas after the war and earned a degree in radio broadcasting.
