Harry Potter Film Whips Up New B-O Record

JULY 17, 2009 - Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince collected US$104 million (RM368 million) at worldwide box offices on its first full day of release, setting a record, the Warner Bros studio said yesterday.

The movie, the sixth in the series based on the books by JK Rowling, grossed US$45.85 million at the box office internationally and US$58.18 in North America on Wednesday, Warner Bros said. Those figures include a record US$22.2 million at midnight showings in the US.

“We owe this record-breaking opening to the remarkable fans who have stood by us and who stood in line to be among the first to see ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,’” Warner Bros President and Chief Operating Officer Alan Horn said in a statement.
