Doris Day Hides Out in California

SAW this news on the Daily Mail website. For those who remember Doris Day aka Calamity Jane of the 50s. For more click here.

DORIS DAY, 84, has changed her name to Clara Kappelhoff (picture) and turned her back on Hollywood to live a reclusive lifestyle in rural California.

Seen out shopping with a female friend in her hometown of Carmel, it is hard to believe she was one of the most prolific actresses of the 1950s and 60s.

Her face is devoid of makeup, her hair is untidy and she is dressed in jogging bottoms and trainers.

In her heyday (pic left) she starred in films such as Calamity Jane, Young At Heart and The Man Who Knew Too Much, in which she sang Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be).

However, the star has kept out of the limelight in recent years, even more so since her only son Terry, from the first of her four marriages, died of cancer in 2004 aged 62.

Doris Day is BEAUTIFUL inside and out...isn't it odd that in her heyday, she could ride her bike freely throughout Beverly Hills and no paparazzi hounded her - so why now? Yes, she is older - we all are. We should all just be thankful and grateful that Doris is ALIVE and WELL
I had the honor and privilege of being her personal secretary while she was filming "The Doris Day Show" at CBS in the '70s. Doris is a wonderful, fun-loving and compassionate Lady.
I was interviewed by David Kaufman 2 years ago and he credits me, among others, in his new book about Doris as "helping to get Day's story straight." After that interview I was encouraged to publish my memoir.
My book: "DAY AT A TIME -- An Indiana Girl's Sentimental Journey to Doris Day's Hollywood and Beyond" from Hawthorne Publishing

The book website is:

My book is an up-close and personal look at what it was like to know, work for and live with America's Sweetheart, Doris Day. She is an awesome Lady and it is too bad people are hounding her now and publishing unflattering photos. I repeat -- DORIS DAY IS BEAUTIFUL - inside and out!

Dear Ms Barothy,
Thank you for a most illuminating comment. I will check out your book at the book store. If I can't find it in Malaysia, I shall look for it at the Monroe Library in Bloomington, Indiana, as I shall be going there in October.

Warmest regards...
